Third Wave Digital was founded by Allen DeBevoise in 2014 to provide start-up capital to exceptional early-stage media and technology entrepreneurs addressing opportunities in digital media technology, distribution and programming.
Based in Los Angeles, Third Wave Digital is committed to helping innovative early-stage teams develop the major media companies of the future.
What is the Third Wave?
The First Wave of mass-media was dominated by broadcast networks like ABC, CBS, and NBC. These national networks leveraged scarcity and regulation of radio spectrum to build and maintain a tight grip on both programming and distribution of content.
The Second Wave was powered by the rise of cable and satellite networks. Swashbuckling entrepreneurs like Ted Turner took advantage of new distribution opportunities to build massive alternative national programming brands like CNN, TBS, ESPN, HBO, MTV and Discovery.
The Third Wave began with streaming media over the internet and is now being driven by broadband mobile technologies. Global high bandwidth cellular networks and smart phones have provided an unprecedented, nearly free, anytime-anywhere distribution platform with billions of users that is enabling creation of the first truly global media brands. New companies like YouTube, Netflix and Maker Studios are only the first of many that will create massive shareholder value as the third-wave transforms the global media landscape.
